Marius booked in to a new hotel. As always, he travelled on false documents, and it was these he had used when booking a room and for the rental vehicle. If anyone went to his last hotel looking for him, the documentation would lead to a dead end. When the police checked the rental vehicle left behind in the warehouse, this too would lead nowhere. He had already arranged to get a new passport. He would have them by the time he needed to leave. He organised his new hotel room through connections and the management would not ask him questions.

His new room was comfortable. The hotel, hidden down a back street, was smaller and of a lesser quality, but it would do. He had left his bag behind. He needed to buy new clothes. Marius had little doubt Gashi’s men had already informed on him. Gashi would be pissed off with him again, and that was dangerous.

How had Bradley found him? Had he been followed? He didn’t see how that was possible, and Bradley had been in the warehouse before he arrived. Had he been followed earlier? It was the only obvious answer. Reality hit. Whether it was his fault or not, all fingers would be pointing at him. Gashi would make sure of it. His stomach churned and he almost vomited. If he was to survive, he needed to make amends.

He had to get rid of Bradley.

Bradley was destroying the reputation he had carefully built over the last few years. His future, and the lifestyle he had come to take for granted, were now in jeopardy. Marius paced. Until Bradley was killed, he had to consider himself a dead man. Either Pietro Gallo or Osman Gashi might have already dispatched a hitman, or maybe more than one. He needed to take care of Bradley as quickly as possible. He would hire more local hoods. Twice as many as he would normally need. When next he met with Bradley, he would surround him with a small army.

“Let’s see Bradley walk away from that,” he said out loud. “The New Zealander will not walk away next time,” he promised the desperate image in the mirror.
